Frequently Asked Questions
What is physical intervention?
Physical intervention refers to the use of safe, planned physical techniques to guide, hold, or disengage from an individual when there is a risk of harm to themselves or others. In our training, the emphasis is always on prevention and de-escalation first, with physical intervention only used as a last resort in line with legal and ethical guidelines.
When is it appropriate?
Physical intervention should only be used when all other strategies have failed or are not safe to attempt, and when there is an immediate risk of injury to the individual, staff, or others. Our course teaches how to assess situations, follow legal frameworks, and apply techniques that minimize risk and avoid causing pain.
Do you teach restraint?
We teach safer physical intervention techniques, which may include holding or guiding when absolutely necessary. These techniques are designed to be low-risk, non-restrictive, and compliant with safeguarding best practice. Our focus is on minimizing the need for restraint through better prevention, communication, and de-escalation strategies.
What ongoing support do you provide?
All certified trainers receive ongoing support from BitePRO®, including access to updated training materials, best practice resources, and refresher opportunities. We also offer advice on adapting your training to changes in legislation or organizational policy, so you remain compliant and confident in your role.
