Every day, special education staff across the world show up with dedication, patience, and professionalism but far too many face serious safety risks with little protection or recognition. To uncover the truth, we have just launched the 2025 Special Education Staff Safety Survey and the early results are already raising red flags.
If you work in special education, we want your voice to be heard. But first, here’s what your colleagues have shared so far.
Top 5 Findings So Far
1 in 3 special education staff have considered leaving their job due to safety concerns
22.2% have thought about leaving. Another 11.1% already have. These are frontline educators pushed to breaking point.
44.4% have suffered injuries that required medical attention
Nearly half of respondents reported injuries serious enough to need treatment, most often to the arms and hands.
77.8% say the public doesn’t understand the risks staff face
There's a huge gap between perception and reality. Most people simply don’t know what goes on behind classroom doors.
44.4% admit to using makeshift protection like extra layers
When proper equipment isn’t provided, staff are forced to improvise. That shouldn’t be the norm.
77.8% say they’d definitely wear protective clothing if provided
Most staff want safer conditions, but there are still concerns about comfort and appearance.
What Is the Survey About?

The results will be compiled into the 2025 Special Education Staff Safety Report, freely available to participants and decision-makers across the sector.
Your education experience matters. Whether you’ve been injured, know someone who has, or simply want better safety standards, we want to hear from you.
